The average landing page in India converts at 1.2–2.4%. We consistently get clients to 4–7% without a complete redesign — just by fixing the same five mistakes we see on almost every audit.

None of these require a developer. None require a new design system. They require honest self-assessment and the willingness to cut things that feel important but aren't.

Mistake 1: Your Headline Describes Features, Not Outcomes

"India's Most Advanced Cloud Accounting Platform" is a feature statement. No one wakes up wanting an advanced platform — they want to close their books faster, reduce CA fees, or stop getting penalised for late GST filings.

Fix: Rewrite your headline as a specific outcome for a specific person. "File your GST returns in 15 minutes — even if you've never touched accounting software" converts better than any superlative you can think of.

Mistake 2: Social Proof is Present but Not Proximate

Testimonials buried in a footer or a dedicated section below the fold don't work. Social proof needs to be immediately adjacent to every friction point — next to the pricing, next to the form, next to the CTA button.

Fix: Place a one-sentence testimonial (with name, company, and photo) directly above or beside your primary CTA. Conversion lifts of 15–30% are common from this single change.

Mistake 3: One Page, Multiple Goals

Your landing page has a contact form, a newsletter signup, links to three blog posts, a pricing calculator, and a "Learn More" button that goes to your homepage. Every option you give a visitor reduces the probability they take the one action you actually want.

Fix: One page, one CTA. Remove everything that doesn't directly support the conversion goal. If you're tracking multiple goals, build multiple pages.

Mistake 4: Mobile is an Afterthought

Over 70% of landing page traffic in India comes from mobile. Yet most landing pages are designed on desktop and "made responsive" as an afterthought. Forms with tiny tap targets, CTAs hidden below the fold, text too small to read without zooming — these kill conversions silently.

Fix: Design for mobile first. Test your CTA tap area (minimum 44×44px). Test your form on a real phone before launch.

Mistake 5: Your Page Loads in 4+ Seconds

A 1-second delay in page load time reduces conversions by ~7%. On mobile 4G in India, most landing pages take 4–6 seconds to load. That's a 28–42% conversion penalty baked into your infrastructure.

Fix: Compress images (use WebP), lazy load below-the-fold content, remove unnecessary scripts. Tools like PageSpeed Insights will show you exactly what's killing your load time and in what order to fix it.

The Quick Win Sequence

If you're short on time, do these in order:

  1. Rewrite the headline (30 min)
  2. Move a testimonial next to your CTA (20 min)
  3. Remove every non-essential link (15 min)
  4. Test the mobile experience on a real device (20 min)
  5. Run PageSpeed Insights and fix the top 3 issues (1–2 hours)

That's half a day of work. In our experience, it's worth a 40–80% improvement in conversion rate before you spend a rupee on a redesign.
